20 Questions Survey

I saw this fun survey over on Ashley’s blog and thought I’d join in on the fun! I love getting to know other bloggers and readers, so feel free to play along and answer some of the questions in the comments section! Here goes!

1. What’s your whole name?

Katie Jane Horner

2. Are you named after anyone?

My middle name was my grandma’s middle name.

3. Do you have any siblings?

Yes, I have two older sisters, one older brother, and a younger half brother.

4. Where did you grow up?

I was born in a suburb of Chicago but moved over the border to Wisconsin when I was pretty young. We lived in a small town about 90 minutes from Chicago and 60 minutes from Milwaukee for the majority of my life. Now, all my family (except for my sister in Brazil) live back in Illinois!

5. What activities did you do in high school?

I was big into sports and played tennis, basketball and soccer. My senior year I randomly decided to try track out instead of soccer and lasted a whole two days– I couldn’t stand the thought of running after nothing! Now, seven marathons later… 😉

6. Where did you go to college?

I went to the University of Wisconsin- LaCrosse and loved every second of it.

7. What activities did you do in college?

Eating and drinking and hanging out with friends. (I stole this response from Ashley). Of course I studied and got good grades, but I had my share of fun too!

8. What did you study in college?

I majored in Community Health Education with a minor in Nutrition.

9. What was your first job out of college?

My last semester of college I interned at Snap Fitness and got offered a permanent job after graduation. I managed two different clubs as well as taught group fitness classes and performed nutrition consultations.

10. What kind of music do you like?

I’m not too picky but I do love country!

11. What’s one hobby that you’d like to take up?

Photography. I really have no idea what I am doing when it comes to taking pictures, but I think it would be fun to take a few classes on the basics to get me started!

12. What did you think you wanted to be when you grew up?

Depends on how old I was when you asked me. When I was in middle school I wanted to be a DJ (ha!), in high school I thought about being a teacher but eventually my love for health and fitness took over and a I chose the wellness path.

13. What’s the biggest project on your to-do list right now?

Renovate our kitchen! We are currently waiting patiently to see our new design and estimate. Can’t wait to show you before and after photos!

14. Do you have any irrational fears?

Running out of coffee. Kidding. Nothing comes to mind right away…I hate spiders (and all bugs) but does anyone really like them?

15. Have you ever traveled outside the country? If so, where and when?

Yes! I actually plan on doing a post on all of my travels in the future, but I feel very blessed to have traveled to:

  • Canada
  • Mexico
  • Ireland
  • England
  • Switzerland
  • Austria
  • Germany
  • France
  • Italy
  • Jamaica
  • Netherlands
  • Tanzania
  • Brazil

16. When’s your next vacation and where are you going?

We just returned from Orlando, Florida, so I am not sure when or where our next vacation will be! We usually try to stick around Madison for the summer months since its so beautiful here!

17. Do you speak any other languages?

Unfortunately, no. I took German all throughout high school but I certainly do not speak it fluently.

18. What’s one talent that you wish you had?

Acting or singing probably. Or hair and makeup- I could really use help in that department 🙂

19. What’s something that you wish you did more of?

Boating. I LOVE hopping on a boat in the summertime with an ice cold beer and just hanging out on the lake all day. We have two pretty big lakes in Madison with several small ones in the surrounding areas but…we don’t have a boat. I don’t see us purchasing one in the foreseeable future, but maybe someday!

20. If you weren’t in your current job, what would you want to be doing?

I think it would be cool to be on the show, Cupcake Wars. Who wouldn’t want to get paid to eat and judge cupcakes all day long? Or work at a sloth sanctuary (if you know me, you know I am slightly obsessed with the little guys), a travel show host, or a beer and/or wine connoisseur. Oh, I would also love to be the owner of a cute little brew pub (dog friendly of course)!

And there you have it! Answer one or two questions about yourself in the comments– I’d love to learn more about you!

  3. love this! i always love knowing more about my blog friends <3 I workout at a snap fitness in my town! 🙂

  4. I love this survey! I’m definitely stealing that one for a post. Your list of countries you’ve visited is super impressive! I’m really hoping to rack up some more spots in the future!

    • I would love to travel with Scott in the future- the only one on that list where we have actually gone together is Mexico!

  5. Love this post!! And we can blast country together at Ragnar 🙂

  6. Love these little surveys! One hobby I’d love to take up is photography as well, I have always loved having and taking pictures (maybe that’s why I’m obsessed wih Instagram). 🙂

    • I love IG too! I have no skills when it comes to photography so it would be fun to learn some simple tricks even!

  7. You want to be a travel show host too? Good one! And I love that you used my answer from the college activities. Gotta keep it real, right? Seven marathons? Wow! Loved learning all of this about you, Katie! 🙂 Thank you for doing the survey!

  8. Baha!! I love that you used to want to be a DJ!! I can almost picture it… 😉

  9. I hope that you know that we are going to spend the majority of Ragnar with you telling about all of those places that you have traveled. That is incredible! Also, I love that you used to want to be a DJ, and are all about country. Not many people want to scratch Blake Shelton lol.

    • lol I am sure my parents were thrilled when I said I wanted to grow up and be a DJ…

  10. I never knew you had so many siblings… although I feel like I should have remembered reading that from your wedding posts. I love big families but caring for that many children terrifies me, LOL. Loved learning more about you!

  11. I absolutely loved reading these and learning more about you! If you need a partner on Cupcake Wars, I’m your girl! That show is one of my favorites 🙂

  12. I love this! I totally think I’m going to post something like this soon, too! 🙂 You’ve traveled to so many cool places! Ireland is my favorite on your list … mostly because I’m excited to go there!!

  15. Oooooh can’t wait to see updates on your kitchen! I’m currently renting an apartment but once I buy another house, I’m going to be all over fixing up the kitchen.

  16. I miss boating so much! I’m from northern Minnesota and I grew up living on a lake. I’m now in Colorado, which I adore but there are so few natural lakes. Sure, there are a few reservoirs around the city that EVERYBODY goes to but I miss the sitting on the end of the dock, waterskiing, going out on the pontoon (I think everyone who lives on a lake in MN owns a pontoon boat- lol) and tanning while floating around in an inner tube. Wow…you totally brought back some good memories!

    • Hi Melanie! Oh yes, pontoons are the way to go around here 🙂 I hope someday we can live on the lake again!

  17. I’m glad you did this! I’m especially always interested in learning what people majored in college and what they’re doing now! I like to see the paths people choose.
