I’ll Have A Latte, Please.

Confession: I don’t really like Valentine’s Day. I hate how crowded the restaurants are, how overly priced flowers get and how it makes all (okay, maybe not all) of the single people feel bad. Scott and I don’t really do much for the holiday, in fact if he got me a $5.00 hopelessly romantic card, I would probably throw it back at him and say, “you could have gotten me a latte for the price of this!”. Okay, I am kidding…sort of.

Instead, Scott and I like to play a little game. (I owe all of the credit to Julie on this one.) Basically we have 2 hours to go out and spend $25 on each other. The possibilities are endless– lottery tickets, socks, hot sauce, and car washes have been some of the previous years picks– I can’t wait to see what’s in store for this year!

The good thing about the lovebird holiday? All of the recipes that are popping up on blogs:

Grain Free Sugar Cookies via Against All Grain

Superfood Snack Bites via The Fitnessista

Salted Caramel Chocolate Raspberry Chia Pudding via Paleomg

Red Velvet Cream Cheese Cookies via Six Sisters Stuff

Yes, please!

Any plans for Valentines Day? And good recipes to share?

My brother and sister-in-law will be coming up from Chicago and staying with us on Friday. We plan on ordering a few pizzas, drinking some wine and playing some games back at our place!

  1. I’m not a huge Valentine’s Day person either – but these treats look tasty!

  2. Ohhh I have seen that idea on PBF before and think it is so cute. I’m not big into Valentine’s Day either…just a card and maybe dinner (though we never go ON Valentine’s day because like you said it’s wayyyyy too crowded) is cool with me.

  3. We used that idea for Christmas! Maybe we should use it for Valentine’s day too :) The husband and I don’t do anything special. Honestly, it’s just another day to me. In fact, I yell at him for buying me flowers ever on Valentine’s Day (even though he knows not to even come close to buying me roses) and this year he said he’ll get them after the holiday when the prices drop, ha. I don’t find going to crowded restaurants appealing at all. We were going to make dinner at home, but now I’m thinking just ordering pizza. I cook every night, so having a night off sounds pretty great to me haha

  4. This year I’ll be at the high school state dance tournament, so it definitely won’t be a wine and delicious food night (although I might pack a bottle of wine to share with the other coaches, to enjoy once the girls are tucked into their beds). I’m usually very big about having a quiet night to myself and enjoying it. I’ve also scheduled phone dates with other single friends, its great to catch up and just talk about real life, instead of the breezy “i’m good, how are you” that can happen.

  5. That’s such a cute idea I love that! I’ve always loved Valentine’s day but you’re totally right about it not having to be such a big production. A nice dinner at home and a little special something are celebration enough for me lol.

  6. I LOVE that idea!! We are busy this year with getting ready for vacay but hopefully we can try that out next year – seems like it would be a fun thing for Luke to participate in too!! And I would totally rather have a latte than a card anyday! ;)

  7. I looooooove Valentine’s Day :) I’m such a nerd! I don’t ever want flowers or anything special because it’s all way over-priced but I think it’s good to remember the holiday of love. Kyle wanted to take me an Italian restaurant but I’m refusing to eat pasta right before going to a beach, haha so we don’t have any plans right now.

    • I guess I don’t hate it as much as I made it seem…I am all about love, just all year round ;) So jealous you will be off to Jamaica soon!

  8. I love this idea, I’ve also seen some really cute ones on other blogs too! I, shamelessly, like this holiday. It’s not all about the presents, but I enjoy dressing up and going out – not that I can’t do that any other day, but it’s just fun :) I will have to remember your idea for another year! I also really liked on that I saw, where you both fill up a mason jar with “date night ideas” and do them every so often! Blogging is better than Pintrest ;)

    • I do like dressing up once and awhile and going out– it makes it seem more special! I love the mason jar idea too!

  9. Like I said on Twitter, I love this idea for VDay I think it is such a great one. It is too late to get Nick onto this idea but maybe for next year ;)

  10. Vday isn’t my favorite. Yes, I do love chocolate, sweets, flowers etc.. but.. we never celebrate it with a dinner or anything! possibly cause my birthday is the day after? But, we can celebrate love any other day.. I prefer our anniversary to celebrate that kinda stuff! I love the idea of going out and spending 25$ perfect!

  1. […] after my last Valentine’s Day hater post, I have to give a shout out to Scott- the love of my life! According to Facebook, this is one […]

  2. […] Cute Valentine’s tradition idea: I’ll have a latte please […]
