Scott and I met back in college freshman year at the University of WI La Crosse. While we remained friends for few years, we eventually started dating our junior year. Since then we moved to Madison, got our baby…err I mean dog, Maddie, and bought a house. On March 9th I turned 25, and I received the best birthday present a girl could ask for, a Wedding ring (and fiancé)!
Back in October Scott had earned a well deserved incentive trip with other coworkers and their significant others to Maui, Hawaii for 5 nights in March. We wanted to make our own trip out of it as well, so we decided to go a few days earlier to another island, Oahu. We arrived late on Friday night and with the time change (Hawaii is 5 hours behind) we were ready for bed! Saturday morning we woke up around 4am wide awake wondering how we were ever going to get back to sleep when Scott abruptly jumped out of bed and said, ” Well, I know something we can do!” and handed me an envelope. Inside the envelope a sheet of paper read:
Since it was my birthday, I didn’t think anything of it other than I was super excited we were going to do some sort of hiking and laying by the ocean Sounded like a perfect day to me! We headed to the lobby around 5:30am and Scott had yet another surprise up his sleeve…he had rented a mustang convertible the night we got there! We hopped in and started driving up the east coast and about 45 minutes into our drive we had reached our destination. As the sun was just starting to rise, we parked the car and headed up a steep and sandy trail. The views were simply stunning!
I found out later that this was the Lanikai Pillbox Trail. If you are ever visiting the island of Oahu, I definitely recommend checking this trail out!
After taking in the sun rise and the breathtaking views, Scott turned around and faced me, said some things we both don’t remember, and ask me to marry him. “Yes!” I said with tearful eyes.
The rest of the day was just as beautiful. We headed to a local restaurant for brunch where the chef congratulated us with his famous banana pancake topped with macadamia nut sauce. It was delicious!
And then headed to Kailua Beach for a few hours to soak up the sun.
Our day didn’t stop there. We headed back to our hotel, showered up, and went to a great restaurant a friend recommended, House Without a Key. The restaurant was right on the beach and had live music and dancing. Perfect way to end the day!
