Wedding Recap: Getting Ready

Last week I got an email from our photographer letting us know our wedding photos were ready to be viewed and I literally jumped out of my chair and screamed. I am beyond impressed with all of them and can’t wait to share every detail with you guys! Let’s start from the top with a recap of getting ready for the big day:

(How awesome is this Wedding Emergency Kit one of my bridesmaid’s made for all of us girls?! It definitely came in handy!)

After our rehearsal the night before, I woke up at 6:30AM on the morning of our wedding to give myself time for a workout with two of my bridesmaids in our hotel’s fitness room, which really helped release some wedding day jitters. I came back and quickly showered before all of my bridesmaids met in my mom’s hotel suite at the Kalahari Resort to get ready at 8AM. We started the morning off with coffee, mimosas, bagels and fruit before we got the ball rolling. (One last gift to the girls were these monogrammed coffee cups.)

We had one hair stylist  and two makeup artists, so we rotated around until we were all finished. I saved myself for last, so I had plenty of time to finish some last minute wedding items and just relax. As I waited for my turn to come, I was surprised at  how calm I felt, for the most part. I owe a lot of that to my personal attendant Chelsea who literally was running to and from the girls room, the guys room and our reception location all day long for me. She’s a rockstar, and yes, that is a belt complete with emergency items attached.

I remember sitting back and looking around at all of my beautiful bridesmaids and just taking it all in. I could not stop smiling knowing that all of my favorite people were in the same room together, getting ready for Scott and I to be married.

Time seemed to pass by relatively slow to start, which I knew would change rather quickly. We catered in Jimmy John’s for lunch (it’s SO easy to forget to eat but SO important that you do!) which worked out perfectly because we set all of the sandwiches out and people could grab one in-between getting ready. Before I know it, I was getting my hair and makeup done! Everything went surprisingly well and I didn’t change a single thing about either of them.

Right before we changed into our dresses, we took one last cheers with all of us girls.

Mini bottles of wine? Yes, please!

Meanwhile, the guys were hanging out in Scott’s parents room. They had the entire morning to do as they pleased, and most of them hit up the water park slides (lucky!) before it was time to get ready.

I absolutely love this picture of Scott and his mom!

Getting ready to see his bride!

Back in the girls room, it was time to slip on my dress and accessories.

My “something old” was my grandmother’s pearl bracelet and earrings.

My “something borrowed” was one of my bridesmaid’s hair pieces.

My “something blue” was a handmade garter from Scott’s aunt and a handkerchief from one of my bridesmaids.

My two sisters helped me into my gown and I could not stop shaking with excitement. I love this photo of my mom in the background!

After putting on my wedding shoes I was ready to head to Trappers Turn to see Scott for the first time! My Badgley Mischka shoes were beautiful and quite comfortable, but my sister also bought a pair of TOMS wedges for all of the walking on the golf course!

More to come…

  3. Getting ready is such a fun part of the day! I’m glad you were able to relax and enjoy it!

  4. Love it! For the wedding I was a part of last weekend the guys were going to golf, but since it was chilly they opted for water park also. Lucky guys!

    • It has been unseasonably cool for fall weddings this year! The guys wanted to golf on our wedding morning too but it was freezing!

  5. Gorgeous!! Love the picture if you getting your hair done. And that dress – die!!

  10. Beautiful pictures! Wow getting up early to get a workout in on your wedding day. That is some dedication!

    • Thank you! And I was just going to play it by ear but I couldn’t sleep so I thought might as well get up and release some energy 😉

  11. You look so incredibly beautiful. I love the silky robes you and your ladies wore too. Can’t wait to see the rest!

    • Thank you, Ashley! I was so happy with the robes too. RueLaLa is my favorite shopping site by far!

  12. Gorgeous lady! Can’t wait to see more! So many cute cute cute details!

  13. Such beautiful photos. Your wedding dress is gorgeous! I love the emergency box too haha

    • That emergency box came in handy multiple times. The best thing about it is I got to bring the remainder of the stuff on our honeymoon since most of it was all travel size 😉

  14. I LOVE your dress. I LOVE your pictures. And I LOVE your mom’s dress. She was rocking that blue! Also, that emergency belt your personal attendant has on is SO funny… but I’m sure very helpful! 😉

  15. This is the most beautiful pre-wedding recap! It’s so fun that you now have this recollection of it for reference 🙂

    • Aw, thanks Kate! I agree, I can’t wait to go back and read all of the recaps every now and then 🙂

  16. I totally just got goosebumps from reading this!! Can’t wait to see more. Love your dress and how happy you look!!

  17. I literally just shed a tear! Everything looks perfect and you look amazing and happy! Can’t wait for more pics!!! The guys have it so easy it isn’t fair, but I always say the best part about being a girl is beig able to paint our nails which also unfortunately takes a lot of time in the getting ready process! I love the emergency belt your assistant is wearing! Brilliant!

    • Oh, Brooke- you’re sweet! Haha yes the guys do have it easy, but I loved just hanging out with the girls all day getting ready too- it was so special!

  18. Ahhh so gorgeous!!! Your DRESS!!!

Love the mini wine bottles! And kudos to you for getting a workout in that morning–impressive!! 🙂

    Can’t wait to see more!

    • Thanks, Kim! I was going to play the whole workout thing by ear, but I was up anyway and needed to release some energy, haha.

  19. What great photos! You look gorgeous!! I love the one with the little wines too. It’s so great to see fun pictures in with all the serious ones that people generally associate with weddings. 🙂

  20. You were just stunning, Kate! I can see why you didn’t want to change anything about your hair and makeup- they were perfect! And those mini bottles of wine were too freakin’ cute. I can’t wait to see more!!

  21. Ah- so stunning!! All the pictures are awesome, but one of my faves is definitely the excitement on your mom’s face when your sisters are helping with your dress!
I love the idea of hiring a personal attendant. Why not save yourself, or moms or someone (!) the day-of stress.
Can’t wait to read and see more 🙂

    • Yes, that is one of my favs too! I never thought I needed a personal attendant but Chelsea did SO much for me, she was awesome!

  22. Oh my gosh you and your bridesmaids look gorgeous! I love that your dress has sleeves..I’m definitely having one with sleeves!!

    • Thanks, Amanda! I actually made the sleeves detachable so I could have two different looks 😉 You’ll see that later!

  23. Absolutely stunning! Your dress is amazing and your photos are precious! Congrats again girl!

  24. Absolutely beautiful! Looks like you had a very special & memorable day. 🙂
