Wedding Recap: The Reception Part II

During cocktail hour and throughout dinner, guests were asked to sign our guest book. I wanted something a little different from your typical book that most bride and grooms have set out at weddings, and ended up going with a giant-size Jenga game for everyone to sign.

We set out pens and blocks for everyone to sign and write a personal message on, and began building our Jenga game. I love the way this ended up turning out and it’s currently piled high on our porch!

Shortly after cutting the cake, Scott and I shared our first dance has husband and wife to “Soldier” by Gavin DeGraw.

We wanted something unique as far as music went and we were so happy that we chose Dueling Pianos for half of the night, followed by a DJ for the last half of the night. It couldn’t have gone more perfectly!

While Scott and I were dancing, we talked about how crazy it was that we were actually married and how happy we were that all of our favorite people were in one room together.

The funny thing is, I don’t even remember hearing our song during our dance, I just remember trying to take it all in and thinking that the night was going by way too fast.

After our dance I met my dad on the floor and we began our dance to “Forever Young” by Rod Stewart. I think we laughed and sang along with the song the entire time- both so happy!

Notice anything different about my dress? I had the seamstress make the sleeves I wore detachable so I could have two different looks throughout the night!

After our dance was done, we stepped off the dance floor so Scott and his mom could dance to their song, “100 Years” by Five for Fighting. Their moment was so special and Scott’s mom looked absolutely stunning!

Once the special dances were concluded, the Dueling Pianos turned up the volume and began to play some upbeat tunes as everyone hit the dance floor.

Not before long, the dance floor was packed with friends and family and it stayed that way the entire night!

If I thought the first half of the night went by quickly, the second half of the night went by even quicker! The pianos were the perfect touch to the evening and around 10PM they concluded as the DJ took over for the rest of the night.

We had planned on doing the traditions of tossing the bridal bouquet and the garter, but we didn’t want to make everyone get off of the dance floor and ruin the moment so we ended up skipping both all together. Honestly, I wasn’t too thrilled to do either one of them (I know…I don’t like wedding cake and I don’t like tossing the bouquet…who am I?) so I wasn’t that upset!

We had planned on ending the reception at midnight, but everyone was having so much fun so we asked the DJ to play a half hour longer. The night was such a blur, but I do remember finding Scott for the last song of the evening and giving him a great big hug.

And just like that, our wedding was over.
